Seven 4th of July Fun Facts


Since we celebrated our Nation's birthday yesterday, we thought that we would have some fun on the blog today and give you 7 fun facts that you may not know about the 4th of July!


Fact 1

According to some historians, July 2nd is the actual day of Independence, but it is celebrated because that’s when congress agreed and accepted Jefferson’s declaration.

Fact 2

The “Star Spangled Banner” was not declared the official national anthem until 1931.  It was originally written as a poem but was later put to music.


Fact 3 

Three U.S. presidents have died on July 4th – John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe.  One president was born on July 4th – Calvin Coolidge.


Fact 4 

97% of fireworks in the United States are imported from China.



Fact 5 

Over 150 million hot dogs are consumed each year on July 4th!


Fact 6

July 4th wasn’t deemed a federal holiday until almost 100 years after declaring independence in 1870.



Fact 7 


When watching fireworks, you do see the sky light up faster than you hear the booming sound because lights travels about a million times faster than sound.
